52 weeks of Tofu Banh Mi

For the year of 2022, we decided to try, rate, and rank 52 different Tofu Banh Mi’s from the greater Seattle Area. Why Tofu you ask? Because everyone pays attention to pork banh mi’s, and tofu needs more love.

Below are our findings, ranked from first to last. Hope you enjoy!

Q Bakery (Hillman City)

Bread 5/5 : Bread was perfectly toasted. You think it’s going to cut the roof of your mouth but it doesn’t, surprisingly.
Tofu 4/5 : was good, marinated well, good balance, a little on the dry side. Abundant.
Fillings 4/5 : Had all the fillings, everything was balance, and can taste everything. Missing some pate/mayo, have added mushrooms.
Price 5/5 : $4.75

Tony’s Bakery & Deli (Hillman City)

Bread 4.5/5 : Bread was pretty good. Perfectly toasted has a nice buttery after taste.
Tofu 3.5/5 : tofu needs some flavoring, good amount but a little bland.
Fillings 5/5 : Had all the fillings, everything was refreshing. Love the cucumber as it’s juicy. The addition of onions gives it a nice crunch but not overpowering.
Price 5/5 : $5.50

Renton Deli (Renton)

Bread 4/5 : Bread was toasted, but still soft, doesn’t have enough bread inside so not as fluffy, but still good.
Tofu 4/5 : Tofu was marinated well, there was an abundant of it, but it was a little too sweet for my taste.
Fillings 4.5/5 : Great filling, has mostly everything, the carrots and daikon was a little too chopped up but not too bad.
Price 5/5 : $5.50

Teacup (Des Moines)

Bread 4/5 : Bread was toasted perfectly, nice chew, need a little more fluff but not too bad.
Tofu 4.5/5 : Tofu was good in flavor, not too much of the sauce and abundant amount.
Fillings 4.5/5 : Filling was nostalgic to home. Had everything and you can definitely taste each component. Fresh, and jalapeno has a nice kick.

Bread 4.5/5 : Bread was a nicely toasted, very soft/fluffy.
Tofu 5/5 : Flavorful tofu, abundant amount, good texture.
Fillings 4/5 : Had mostly all the fillings, missing mayo/pate, but taste fresh.

Billiard Hoang (Hillman City)

Bread 4.5/5 : Bread was really good, has a nice cruch everytime you bite into it. The crunch last too 😊
Tofu 4.5/5 : Tofu was abundant, good marination but on the borderline of being too sweet.
Fillings 4/5 : Filling was good as well, nice crunch from cucumber, no jalapenos though, but had chili pepper instead. Love the grilled onions, definitely a nice add as it enhance the banh mi.

Bread 4.5/5 : Bread was pretty good, had a good crunch but not too hard. Inside bread was fluffy.
Tofu 4.5/5 : Tofu had good flavor, abundant.
Fillings 4/5 : Missing carrots but the flavor was still pretty good and didn’t have jalapeno so didn’t have any spice.

Bread 5/5 : Bread was perfectly toasted, still soft, but crunchy, good flavor.
Tofu 4/5 : Tofu was really bland, but the veggies provide the flavor, abundant amount, good texture.
Fillings 4/5 : Filling was mostly carrot and daikon, with 2 small pieces of jalapeno, no cucumber. However, added onion which was nice.
Price 4/5 : $6.50
